A Note from the Management

Stop the presses!

The first playtest of my new fast-play Pre-Dreadnought naval wargame ruleset, Shove Off Gridley, went very well on August 2. I'm currently writing and organizing the rulebook and will be posting the game materials here on this web site as soon as they're presentable.

I will be running a game of Shove Off Gridley at the Fall In! convention in Gettysburg PA this November. Don't know yet what day or time the event will take place, as that's all in the hands of the Gods of Scheduling. Also don't know yet exactly which scenario I'll do. In all likelihood it'll be either the cruisers from Yalu, or the cruisers from Manila Bay, or a hypothetical match-up of the Japanese cruisers from Yalu pitted against the American cruisers from Manila Bay.

Details, as usual, will be provided as soon as I make them up.

And I still haven't gotten around to setting up the plastic model photo gallery section or the web page for the Panzer IV computer-assist tank game project. So sue me!

Stop the presses again!

What with the web pages I have to write for Shove Off Gridley and Panzer IV and some other project stuff I can't think of at the moment, I'm going to have to rewrite the web page code for the menu system yet again to reorganize all the game-related stuff and make room for the new material. I've known this was coming for a while, since just about the time I finished up the last major overhaul as it turns out, so it does not come as a big shocker to me.

The changes should have minimal impact on the rest of Irvania.com though, so I can slip in the changes one section at a time rather than having to do a major facelift all at once.

Meanwhile...

AgentQuest continues! No luck so far on the search for an agent, so I'm now trying unorthodox methods. The orthodox methods got me some orthodox rejection slips, so I'm trying other approaches. The quest goes on.

I'm pretty happy with the latest revision of the first novel in the Generic Legions series, so I'm calling that good. No doubt once I do hook up with an agent and publisher, they'll have changes and revisions and rewrites they want done, but for now I'm considering They Who Are Having A Bad Day completed.

Meanwhile, I'm doing the initial startup work on the second novel in the series, working title Bravery In the Face of the Enemy Is Not Polite. (Long time Irvania.com readers may remember whose motto that is, and so will have a pretty good idea what a lot of the second book is about.)

Meeeeeeeeeeeeeeanwhile, I'm also doing the initial organization work for a completely different novel, code-named Long Run. It's still in the early idea-gathering and note-taking stage, but I can say that it's a comedy set in the modern workplace, and it has certain structural similarities to Joseph Heller's novel Catch-22. Except there aren't any B-25 bombers, and there isn't any naked guy sitting in a tree.

Hanna kayaking
No, this isn't the first playtest of Shove Off Gridley. That's Hanna on the Green River in Kentucky, June 2006.
