Remembrance of Things Really, Really Past

April 17, 2011

I'm not one of those people who spend a lot of time thinking about high school. I can barely remember college, let alone high school, and all that was far enough back that I have to stop and remember which state I was living in when I went to high school. In the muddied waters and mixed metaphors of my life, high school was, for all practical purposes, six or seven lifetimes ago.

So I was a bit surprised when a random memory from my senior year popped up suddenly from the aether and caught my attention. That memory was this: I was voted "most likely to blow up the world".

At the time, as I recall, I thought that was funny, assumed it was intended to be a joke, and took it as such. Now that I think about it though, it seems a bit unfair.

To be honest, I hardly ever blow anything up, and rarely anything as large as a planet.

Okay, there was that one time with Rhylanor Ceti Prime. But that wasn't my fault. And that place over in the Zoofledorf Quadrant. I didn't have anything to do with that one.

No, really. Those people were practically begging to have their homeworlds destroyed. Their civilizations had advanced about as far as they were going to go. They were all just waiting around for someone to come along and do them a favour and blow their planets up. And besides, it was an accident. You can't hold me responsible for things that I had absolutely nothing to do with. Mostly.

I'm glad I got that off my chest. Thanks for letting me vent. Wow. It's been a long, long time since I've made a Marcel Proust reference. Gosh.
