Update: Dave's Writing Projects
As of this writing (March '09) I've finished writing my first novel, They Who Are Having a Bad Day, and ground it through several major revisions. The next step is to find an agent, a send-then-wait-then-wait-some-more sort of project I've been doing on and off while I work on other projects. Hopefully, once I find an agent the next step will be to find a publisher.
Here's what the list of fiction projects looks like now:
- The Generic Legions series of novels: the writing on Bad Day is finished, pending feedback from future agent and/or publisher. I've got the second and third books in the series sketched out but actual writing work on those is on hold until some sort of progress is made on getting the first book published.
- The Long Run novel (or novels, I haven't decided yet): I think this project, a mainstream literature comedy, may have a wider appeal than Bad Day and its kin, but it's going to take more time to write.
- Tales of the Hamster: I've been pondering the short story concept for a while now. This project is a loosely-connected set of short stories for possible distribution in the magazine, webzine, and eBook markets. The pay is probably low, if it pays at all, but it'd get my name out there to more readers and snarf me some feedback. These stories would be straight humor, slapstick, pie-in-the-face parody. No heavy themes, no analogies hinting at deeper meaning, no attempts at "Literature" with a capital "L". Just for yucks, folks. And yes, Jake will be in at least one of the stories. The first story in this series is on the writing block right now.
